Boldon House provides a new home for Durham University’s Professional Services teams, bringing colleagues together within a flexible workplace that supports collaboration and new ways of working. The refurbishment repurposes an existing office building, extending its lifespan while creating a contemporary working environment centred around people and wellbeing.

Across three floors, the building accommodates a range of work settings including flexible workspaces, touchdown areas, meeting rooms, training facilities, a business lounge, café, wellness room, family room and multi-faith room. The design allows staff to choose the environment best suited to the task at hand, encouraging collaboration while supporting focused work and individual wellbeing.

Sustainability is central to the project. The refurbishment incorporates photovoltaic panels, air source heat pumps and active travel facilities, helping to reduce operational carbon while creating one of Durham University’s most environmentally sustainable buildings. Achieving Gold ActiveScore certification, Boldon House demonstrates how existing buildings can be successfully repurposed to meet the demands of modern workplace design.
