Walnuts Leisure Centre Reopens Following £17 Million Transformation
24 Jul 2026
We’re proud to celebrate the completion of the transformation of Walnuts Leisure Centre, marking another significant milestone in the delivery of high-quality sport and leisure facilities that support healthier, more active communities.
Delivered on behalf of Bromley Council through the UK Leisure Framework, the £17 million refurbishment has revitalised one of Orpington’s best-known community assets, creating a modern, accessible destination designed to meet the needs of residents both now and into the future.
The comprehensive redevelopment has transformed the existing centre with a wide range of upgraded facilities. Visitors can now enjoy a refurbished competition swimming pool and training pool, an expanded two-level gym, refreshed sports hall, improved changing accommodation, new sauna and steam room, children’s splash wall, welcoming café and reception spaces, and the latest EGYM smart strength equipment.
Alongside the new facilities, the project has also delivered important improvements behind the scenes. A new heating system and upgraded building services will improve the building’s operational efficiency, helping to reduce running costs while supporting the centre’s long-term sustainability.
GT3 worked collaboratively with Bromley Council, Alliance Leisure, Etec Group, Mytime Active and the wider project team to create a leisure centre that balances high-quality user experiences with operational performance and future flexibility.
David Richardson, Associate Director at GT3, said:
“It’s fantastic to see Walnuts Leisure Centre reopen following this significant transformation. Working closely with Bromley Council and the wider project team, our focus has been on creating a facility that enhances the experience for users while supporting the building’s long-term operation and future flexibility. We’d like to thank the Council for placing their trust in us throughout the project, and we’re proud to see the centre back at the heart of the community.”
The completion of Walnuts Leisure Centre continues GT3’s commitment to designing places that encourage healthier lifestyles, strengthen communities and provide lasting value for local authorities, operators and residents alike.
We’d like to thank everyone involved in delivering the project and look forward to seeing the positive impact the revitalised centre will have for many years to come.
