We’re delighted to share that Callum McChesney MCIAT, Chartered Architectural Technologist in our Newcastle studio, has been appointed aspiration Chair for the Northern Region at the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT).

The aspiration network supports students, graduates, affiliates and recently qualified Chartered Architectural Technologists as they begin and develop their careers. As Chair for the Northern Region, Callum will help champion Architectural Technology, support those entering the profession and encourage new talent into the industry.

Callum joined GT3 with nearly five years of post-university experience working across a range of large-scale projects. He achieved Chartered status in early 2024 and has developed a strong track record in tackling technical design challenges, with a particular interest in sustainability and collaborative working.

Supporting the next generation

Speaking about his appointment, Callum said:

“I’ve wanted to get more involved with CIAT for a little while now and aspiration gives me the perfect opportunity.

“I enjoy helping students and those starting out in this profession. Navigating education and the early years of a career can be full of uncertainty, and I hope I can provide some helpful guidance to people within the Northern Region.

“There is also a clear shortage of Architectural Technologists within this region, and I would like to help raise the profile of the discipline and encourage more people into it.”

Callum’s own route into the profession began with an HNC in the Built Environment at NESCOL before he went on to study at Robert Gordon University, graduating in 2021.

During his studies, he developed a strong interest in sustainable design and modern methods of construction. His final-year project explored the design of a commercially viable hotel using modern methods of construction alongside sustainable strategies.

Since graduating, Callum has worked across multiple sectors on major projects in the North East, building his technical experience and developing his professional specialism. His interest in building performance and heritage construction has continued to grow, while at GT3 he is gaining further experience across complex live projects.
