Bringing a prominent part of Middlesbrough back to life.
Forming the first phase of development from GT3 Architects’ masterplan for Middlesbrough Town Centre, the new Premier Inn provides 83 bedrooms and a bar restaurant to meet the exacting standards of one of the UK’s leading hotel operators. The site is located to the north of the town centre, adjacent to the A66 and in close proximity to a number of existing buildings.
Careful consideration was given to right of light in the layout of the building alongside a desire to maximise the profile and presence of the building to passing traffic. In response, the building adopts a compact arrangement of rooms clustered around a central core typically providing 16-rooms per floor and a ground floor which includes reception, bar and restaurant and 3 accessible rooms.
The design is bold and contemporary in form and detailing combining grey engineering brick, profiled metal cladding and coloured fins which animate the facade and draw the eye. The use of prefabricated bathroom pods and lightweight steel structure allowed the building to be delivered to the highest quality to a tight programme and budget.
