A flagship leisure centre, developed to international standards.
Following the successful and iconic London Olympics, Oldham Council made a commitment to provide improved facilities to promote health and wellbeing for the region. Development of Oldham Leisure Centre was commissioned following the delivery of Royton Leisure Centre to the same client alongside contractor Willmott Dixon.
Our approach was based on our Core + template which helps clients to refine their brief based on our compilation of lessons learnt and experience. It is acknowledged that the membership at Oldham Leisure Centre has tripled since its redevelopment. As well as the centre’s credentials as a leading sports facility, it also acts as a high-quality gateway building that connects the civic centre to the end of the town, ultimately connecting athletics and the community.
This centre, which achieved BREEAM ‘Excellent’, was one of the first to use moss filtration to avoid the need for acid and chemicals, helping more people into activity who would have previously been restricted due to asthma or skin-conditions.
