Having delivered a feasibility study that identified a need to retain an existing sports hall, our scheme is designed to complement the existing building fabric with the addition of a public café, adventure climbing, adventure play, swimming facilities, steam room and sauna, fitness suite, wellness suite, studios and spinning studio.
A key aim of the design is to be compact, easy to navigate and understand, and to be as welcoming and inclusive as possible for all members of society, whatever their level of fitness or ability.
Inclusive design aims to remove the barriers that create undue effort and separation. It enables everyone to participate equally, confidently and independently in everyday activities. These outcomes are of great importance to the development which is intended to ensure that the opportunities for sport are available to all. Accordingly, the proposals have been designed to reflect the guidelines of the inclusive design principles embodied in the Equality Act assuring that the access and use of the facilities consider and provide for different user groups including the young and old, ethnic groups, parent and baby etc and people with different disabilities.
