Care and joy in the heart of the community.
The Grenfell Club provides recreation and leisure facilities for the local community in Redcar and the surrounding area. The centre is ran by volunteers and aims to help develop the social and communication skills of the members through a range of activities. The existing 1970’s Grenfell building was outdated and the opportunity arose for the club to relocate to a new, purpose built centre.
The new building provides a high-quality, functional design on a very tight site, and with a limited budget. The aim was to create a welcoming, safe and stimulating environment which is an exemplar accessible building for members and visitors alike.
Our client wanted to create a healthy and sustainable environment for the club and so we adopted a simple, passive environmental approach. It is naturally ventilated and benefits from natural daylight and views due to the generously proportioned windows. The building is accessed through a courtyard garden which provides a safe outdoor green space for the members. The garden has been left as a blank canvas to allow the members to be involved in the design and upkeep of the garden.
