National recognition as an exemplar of sports and leisure design.
We were appointed to design a new leisure centre for Hart District Council to replace the existing centre which had reached the end of its economic life. Adjacent to Edenbrook Country Park, the brief was to deliver a new facility that would sit comfortably within its rural parkland setting.
The new centre was designed to improve the health and wellness of an existing and growing community, as well as providing regional competition facilities. To reflect the rural setting, our curved design aimed to act as an extension to the park and to respect the residential estates which wrapped around the site.
The scheme aims to provide easy and inclusive access for all of the community and to provide a ‘whole life approach’ to health and social care delivery with a wide range of indoor and outdoor spaces set in an attractive landscaped public realm.
We worked with Sport England during this project to develop the brief and to co-locate a range of activity and community services. This worked to promote inclusive and social development, in line with Hart District Council’s regeneration strategy.
