The new build Workington leisure centre forms part of the wider town masterplan that has been developed by GT3 Architects. Whilst the building is 2 months away from completion, we have suggested this is a useful case study as part of this bid as it has very good relationship with the proposed Westbridge Park Pool with regards to the brief. The facility mix includes an 8 lane swimming pool, 17m teaching pool, 100 station gym, 3 studios (including one spinning), 5 court sports hall, squash courts, café, spectator seating to the pool, climbing wall and a health suite. In addition the project includes 4 external 3G five-a-side pitches. The site sits on the edge of a important greenspace and has been the subject of previous village green protests. The centre is based on affordable model principles and has been developed to provide all of the above for £10.3m including fees.
