‘Cultural Change Through Physical Adaptation’
GT3 Architects are continuing to capitalise on their expertise and skills in the civic and community sector with the commission to design the new Town Hall in Wigan. Working alongside Drivers Jonas Deloitte, Cundall and Appleyard and Trew the project involves the comprehensive refurbishment of the existing Town Hall to create a new civic and administrative hub in the heart of the town centre for up to 600 members of staff.
The new facility brings together a range of council departments, activities and services in a single, centralised location and builds on the success of the Wigan Life Centre and Healthy Living Zone. The new development helps to achieve a sustainable future for Wigan through the delivery of high quality, urban regeneration which will add to the facilities, image and economy of the town.
The design combines the best of the old and the new – retaining the historic character and features of the existing building but at the same time creating a modern, efficient and inspiring workplace that helps to maximise the performance of staff and in so doing improve the delivery of services to the wider community.
