Space within a space.
The brief required us to accommodate a diverse range of functions, each with a unique character, within the shell of the existing building. Physical requirements included a kitchen showroom, interior design studio and headquarters office facility with boardroom, all tied together with an impressive reception space that would serve all of those uses.
Our response to the brief was to construct a space within a space, carved from within the constraints of the existing shell but creating a variety of settings to reflect the complexity of the brief. The design includes a mezzanine level for the office and boardroom with other elements suspended within the space to cater for each function.
Where possible, the full double-height volume is maintained to give an increased sense of space, light and drama within what is otherwise a utilitarian shell. The design is industrially inspired, based on traditional crafts and uses a sophisticated palette of grey’s, whites and neutral tones
