‘Space within a space’
Located on the marina in St Helier, Jersey, Castle Quay is a new mixed-use development with a double height ground floor consisting of retail and commercial use with residential above. The corner unit overlooking the boats and beyond out to sea is the site for a new headquarters for a family business.
The brief required the space to accommodate a diverse range of functions each with a unique character. Functions include a kitchen showroom, an interior design studio and a headquarters office facility with boardroom, all tied together with an impressive reception space that will serve all of the uses. Our proposals include a mezzanine level for the office and boardroom functions. The space is treated as a 3-dimensional whole that has elements suspended within it.
The first floor functions are contained within 2 pods that span between 3 full-height bespoke joinery storage walls. The circulation route and 2 stairs at either end tie all the elements together. Ground floor spaces are created by the voids formed underneath the pods. Where possible the full double height has been maintained to increase the connection to the volume as a whole and give an increased sense of height in the space that has limited headroom.
The design combines a commercial high end office environment with a modern kitchen showroom and an industrial inspired interior design studio all based on an aspiration for a beautifully crafted and detailed interior from a sophisticated palette of grey’s, white and neutral tones.
