June 2014 – ‘Quayside Design Competition’

news_June 2014

Excited to be part of a limited competition to look at options for the Malmo Quay site on Newcastle Quayside. Building on the success of the Malings, Igloo/Carillion invited +3 Architecture, Metropolitan Workshop and Riches Hawley Mikhail to spend a couple of weeks generating ideas for this wonderful, waterfront site which marks the confluence of the Tyne and Ouseburn.

May 2014 – ‘Surfing in Redcar’

After 4 years of planning, design and construction we were delighted to attend the official opening on the snappily titled Redcar & Cleveland Leisure and Community Heart building (and no we didn’t come up with the name). It’s a building that we’re very proud of, not just because we think it is a rather elegant and restrained piece of design but more importantly because it heralds a new type of mixed-use, community facility that combines a unique blend of uses including a flow rider. Surf’s up in Redcar!

April 2014 – ‘+3A International(’ish)’

We’ve long harboured ambitions to work abroad (bright lights, big cities etc) and are delighted to have won our first overseas project. A high-end fit out to create offices and studio space for a private, family company in St Helier to be precise. Ok, so Jersey is a UK crown dependency and not strictly international but it’s a delightful place, a lovely commission and considerably warmer than Newcastle in April!

March 2014 – ‘North Pennine Pain’

We like a challenge at +3A, especially when it’s to raise money for a worthwhile cause such as the North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team. But this year’s Allendale Challenge really was a challenge! Recent, relentless downpours meant that the usual peat bogs were peat lakes and even the firmer ground was wet through. Nevertheless, we completed the 26 mile round trip in just over 10 hours and more importantly raised £950 for charity.

February 2014 – ‘Anyone for NE1?’

We’re committed to using our skills and experience to benefit the region in which we live and work and were therefore delighted to be approached by Newcastle’s very own business improvement district company to develop a vision for the Bigg Market. Immortalised in the words of the ‘Blaydon Races’ and famously used by Gazza for his ‘Fog on the Tyne’ video, the Bigg Market has gone from an attractive leisure destination to an antisocial, ‘no-go’ zone in recent years. We’re hoping to play a part in revitalizing this important part... Read The Rest →

January 2014 – ‘Welcome to Wellbeing’

Our consultancy work in the field of organizational performance is gaining traction in the health sector with a strategic commission from Newcastle NHS Trust to consolidate 1,200 administration staff into a new office building in Newcastle. A rigorous engagement strategy has enabled us to understand what staff do, how they do it and the range of spaces they need to perform at their best. Our design concept builds on this evidence-base with a vision to create a healthy office for healthcare workers.

December 2013 – ‘Time for Us’

After another year of growth and success, it’s time to celebrate the one thing that sets us apart – the thing that gets us up in the morning, that generates great ideas, that delivers them and makes +3 Architecture so much more than the sum of the parts – and that’s US! Cocktails in As You Like It were followed by lunch at Blackfriars with Lane 7 providing the early evening pool and ping-pong competition. Time now to re-charge the batteries, spend some time with family and reflect on another... Read The Rest →

November 2013 – ‘1 Trinity Green highly commended at national building excellence awards’

Our multi-award winning incubator office building, One Trinity Green, has been recognised as one of the best large commercial buildings in the country by LABC at their National Building Excellence Awards – one of the construction industry’s flagship events. October 2013 – ‘Finishing what we Started’

Repeat business is the hallmark of a company who looks after their clients which is why we are doubly-delighted to have been asked by Vela Group to design and deliver the interior of their new, 44,000sqft office HQ at Northshore in Stockton. Our journey with Vela began almost a year ago when the clever guys and girls in our Performance + team were asked to develop a Corporate Design Brief for the new building. This included the adoption of new ways of working and a range of new spatial and... Read The Rest →

September 2013 – ‘Re-Engineering in South Lakeland’

We know it’s wrong to have favourites, but if we did this would be one! Having been involved with this engineering firm for over 4 years we are delighted to have submitted a planning application for their new office HQ. A carefully blended combination of existing historic fabric and new-build elements will create an inspiring workspace for over 120 members of staff and provide an appropriate 3-dimensional business card to current and future clients from all over the world.
