ARC is a unique, affordable recreation centre developed by GT3 Architects in response to the market demand for a flexible community leisure facility that can be designed and delivered with greater cost, programme, operational and cost certainty. Developed in collaboration with a national contractor and wider supply chain, ARC has been developed to drive innovation and affordability through a pre-designed solution.
ARC is adaptable with a base build model that includes wet (2 pools and a changing village) and dry (sports hall, fitness suite and 2 studios) facilities along with a café and administration areas. This base build can be enhanced or reduced depending on the specific requirements of the client. Similarly there is considerable flexibility in the selection of external and internal finishes to reflect the local context and provide an individual character and identity to every scheme. Sustainability has been a key driver in the development of ARC which includes a number of innovative environmental measures to reduce energy use and emissions.
The design and layout complies with Sport England guidelines and meets the needs of the major leisure operators with a scheme that reduces capital and life-cycle cost whilst maximising occupancy, spatial flexibility and operational efficiency.
ARC has had considerable success in the UK marketplace where we have completed a number of projects using this model (including Royton, Workington and Oldham) and a number of others in development (at Shepway, Hull and Rushcliffe).
